To marry or not?
Saturday, January 9, 2010 at 12:31AM Q: I am engaged to be married and am having second, third, and fourth thoughts about it. My head says just do it and it will work out. My gut is in knots and my heart feels empty, like the best is over already and it's time to move on. Thoughts? M.R.
A: It's fortunate that you're having these second, third, fourth thoughts before you've tied the knot -- or perhaps your gut is doing that for you. An empty heart, a knotted gut, and a resigned, uncommitted head do not bode well for a future "till death do us part." Honesty and openness at this point are far more important than placing all your bets on a future that is already looking bleak. You must be true to your own feelings, or you cannot be true to the feelings of someone else who is counting on you for their future happiness. In the short run it may be difficult to tell the truth, but the long run is what counts in a marriage.
