2012 -- how to prepare?
Tuesday, August 18, 2009 at 1:47PM Q: I hear a lot about the year 2012 and that the world is supposed to end. It seems to fit prophecy in the Bible too. How can we prepare? J.M.
A: We have no past or future, only the present. All that remains of the past is what lingers in the present, and all that exists of the future is what we project from the present moment.
The world as we know it is ending all the time. The world of 100 years ago is gone. Endings are natural and are followed by new beginnings.
I expect that when the 2012 date rolls around we will find that it is like a sunset or sunrise, or the turning of the tide. Tide tables show a particular moment for high tide turning to low tide and vice versa. Likewise for sunsets and sunrises. But the actual experience is a gradual turning between day and night, between ebb and flow.
How can we prepare? The "eternal now" is all we have in which to act, live, and grow. If it is the highest and best use of the moment we have at our disposal, it will lead to the highest and best use of the moments that will follow.
