Overpopulation vs. life preservation

Q: On one hand we seem to be obsessed with preserving or prolonging individual lives, and on the other, our species seems endangered by increasing population.  Is there a "happy medium" between these two extremes?  B.B.

A: If you subscribe to the well-known interpretation of the Genesis creation story, at one time there were only four people on Earth:  Adam and Eve and their sons Cain and Abel.  Of those four, one became a murderer, one was murdered, and the other two were the parents of the killer and the killed.  Overpopulation was not a problem.  The point of this illustration is that problems lie in the ways we treat one another, and the ways we misuse or abuse our resources.
